12 Places In Arizona That Are Better Than Anywhere Else In The Country
Arizona is truly a land of beauty. We have everything from deserts and forests to canyons and an alpine tundra. I know there’s no place in the world I would rather be than my home state and I bet you, dear reader, probably agree. Let’s take a look at 12 places that show Arizona is unparalleled in beauty and splendor.
1. Antelope Canyon
We’re starting this list with one of Arizona’s most surreal landscapes, Antelope Canyon located in northern Arizona near Page. The slot canyon is known for its smooth, wavy walls that tower overhead as well as some stunning lighting that is best captured in long exposure photography.
2. Canyon de Chelly
Another northern Arizona canyon on our list, this one has quite a bit of historical and cultural significance in addition to beautiful views. If you can, try arranging for a hike into the canyon, whether it’s on the public White House Trail or with a Navajo guide into more remote parts of the canyon.
3. Fossil Creek
This little oasis has seen its up and downs over the last few years but it’s back to its beautiful self these days with more limited attendance. During the summer months, it’s the perfect spot to escape to from the heat with hiking and swimming. In the fall, it’s even quieter and great for escaping the madding crowd.
4. Grand Canyon
There is no photo that can truly capture the beauty and grandeur of the Grand Canyon but that doesn’t stop people from trying. The best way to experience this natural wonder is by spending hours (or even days) here, admiring the canyon from both the rim and inside.
5. Mogollon Rim
The Mogollon Rim is large and houses a significant part of Arizona’s forested landscape but there’s no place quite like it. Here, you’ll get to enjoy stunning views and a chance to venture into Arizona’s wilderness through outdoor activities.
6. Monument Valley
Located right on the Arizona-Utah border, you will never forget the red buttes from this iconic landscape. It is especially incredible to see the park during a hike or horseback ride where you can explore the area’s beauty in greater depth.
7. Mount Graham
This southern Arizona mountain is a reminder of how quickly the landscape can change and just how lush our forests can appear. Plus, you will absolutely love how serene the land is up there.
8. Petrified Forest
This national park showcases some dramatic scenery and cultural heritage in Arizona. This place has been a favorite for travelers since its Route 66 days and you will be astounded by the color and history found here.
9. San Francisco Peaks
Home to Arizona’s tallest peak and its only alpine tundra, this northern Arizona mountain is a favorite no matter the season. You’ll always find people enjoying the landscape here, whether it’s for a long summer hike, a chance to watch the shimmering autumn leaves, or play in the snow.
10. Superstition Mountains
Rugged, dramatic, and potentially deadly are just the words to describe these central Arizona mountains. The Superstitions make a stunning backdrop for your favorite outdoor activities but venturing into the mountains is the best way to experience it.
11. Tonto Natural Bridge
The world’s largest travertine bridge sits in central Arizona near Payson and what a sight it is! Trek down to the bottom of the bridge to truly admire its grandeur.
12. Vermilion Cliffs
The landscapes at Vermilion Cliffs look like something from a dream, whether you’re talking about White Pocket, the Wave (shown above), Paria Canyon, or the teepee formations. The stark landscape here shows off what kind of beauty you can find in the desert.
