Alaska has a couple U-Pick vegetable farms, and Pyrah's Pioneer Peak Farm in Palmer, Alaska is the largest one in the state!

With over 277 acres, this farm has been in operation since 1935. Originally this property was an Alaskan homesteading project, designed to bring farmers into Alaska for agricultural opportunities.
The Pyrah family moved to the farm in 1979, to work it initially as a welfare farm for the Latter Day Saints.

In 1988 the LDS church discontinued that project, and the Pyrah's took out a lease to turn the farm into what you see today! An amazing operation serving Alaskans locally grown fruits and vegetables.
They offer some limited options in the spring for Alaskans, including a bare root sale in April.

They have also recently begun selling their potato seeds at the farm! Potatoes are one of the best crops to grow in Alaska due to the weather, and the Pyrah's potatoes are well loved by locals!

In July, they have a highly anticipated Strawberry Festival!

This festival is also coordinated with a local triathlon. There's hayrides, watermelon, and live music as well! You have the opportunity to pick delicious strawberries as they come to fruition and spend a day with your neighbors enjoying good food and games for the whole family!
They also offer a "Fall Harvest Festival" in September.

This festival is filled with pumpkin picking, wagon rides, a petting zoo, and much more! This is a wonderful way to wrap up the growing season and stock up on all the root vegetables you can get your hands on!
The farm usually opens for U-Pick operations sometime in July, depending on the weather and the crops.

Sometimes you may be able to get in earlier to pick rhubarb. You have your choice of over 33 different crops to pick from.
