The Alaska Town In The Middle Of Nowhere That's So Worth The Journey

Alaska is such a large state, that there are actually many towns hundreds of miles from anything else. But there’s one town in the middle of nowhere that deserves a visit to truly explore it further. Nome, Alaska is one beautiful little city that offers many different amazing things to see and do!
Nome is a remote little town located on the Seward Peninsula.
There’s about 3,900 locals living there, and the town resides right on the edge of the Bering Sea! Even with a small population, there are many things to do all year round in this beautiful area.
The Bering Sea is an incredible sight to see, and home to many different marine species.
With over nine species of whales and 30 species of sea birds, this area is the perfect spot for some wildlife viewing. Comb the beach for sea glass, or have a campfire with some beautiful driftwood. You can spend a whole day on the beaches of Nome!
If you head to Nome in March, you’ll get to see one of the things the town is most famous for!
The Iditarod race ends in downtown Nome. This race was conceived after the run to get medicine to Nome during a diphtheria outbreak in 1925. The whole town turns into a giant party after this awesome race!
Nome may be on the Bering Sea, but there are some beautiful mountainous areas nearby.
There’s great camping spots, and three different roads that goes out in the wild. You can see different landscapes like tundra, mountains, rivers, and valleys. You may even come across an old gold dredge or two!
If you head to Nome in the winter, be sure to bring your skis!
There's so many great places to cross country ski. You can even get out onto the frozen Bering Sea to ski!
You may even see the amazing musk oxen!
These beautiful creatures roam around the Nome area. They are most commonly known for their incredible fur- the fiber is called qiviut, and it is known as one of the softest and warmest fibers on the planet!
There are no roads heading into Nome from the rest of the state.
The only way to get there is by plane, or a boat during the summer months when the sea ice melts. However you decide to get there, you won’t want to leave!
