The Nordic Skiing Association of Anchorage, or NSAA, presents an annual Solstice Tree Tour. This unique Alaskan celebration of Winter Solstice is particularly important in Alaska since it marks the return of the sun and the beginning of the end for the long, brutal northern winters. The magical event includes more than a mile of beautifully decorated trees for everyone to enjoy this holiday season.

Mize Loop – Kincaid Park
The Nordic Skiing Association of Alaska Solstice Tree Tour is an event many Anchorage residents are looking forward to this December. The third annual ski and walk through twinkling trees is magical and fun.
This celebration of the
Winter Solstice, usually December 21, and the return of longer days is a spectacle of color and light for the senses. The timing coincides with the Christmas season, so the celebration of light in the darkness is everywhere.
The event encourages all ages and abilities to get outside and celebrate the winter solstice by walking through the beautiful Alaskan forest.
The tour of the trees runs along the first 2.5 kilometers of Mize Loop. Local businesses sponsor trees along the route and decorate them to create a winter wonderland along one of the most well-loved trails at Kincaid Park.
For this annual event only, the public is permited to walk as well as ski on the groomed trails to encourage everyone to join the fun.
As winter biking is a popular sport in Alaska, there is a bike corral for those who bike to leave their bikes and walk the loop.
Hot chocolate, coffee, adult beverages, and s’mores will be provided at the warming stations along the way where friendly volunteers greet you with a smile.
This is a very popular, family-friendly event that brings together people of all ages.
Head to Kincaid Park on December 16 from 4-7 PM for this unforgettable Alaskan experience. Bundle up and bring your skis or warm boots for strolling the tree-lined trails.
