The Aurora Train's next stop is Fairbanks. Here in the Interior's largest city, you will spend the evening aurora hunting on a guided lodge tour. Is the train a good way to experience Alaska?
The train is a wonderful way to experience Alaska, especially as you can travel on the train in places where your car can’t travel! You can see the backcountry in a way that’s hard to see without a plane, or hiking out to some of these remote areas. Alaska Railroad runs passenger cars all year long, with fun excursions all the way north to Fairbanks, or all the way south to Seward. There are so many options to get around Alaska, and the train offers a historic, luxurious way of travel.
Is there a lot to do in Alaska in the winter?
Many travelers may be intimidated by an Alaskan winter, but if you bundle up well, then you’ll find that there’s not much more magical than a winter in our stunning state. Any of your favorite wintertime activities, like snowshoeing, ice skating, or skiing, are enhanced by the northern lights, and crisp, cool temperatures. Alaska is a never ending playground in the winter time.
