If you are in need of seriously good wood-fired pizza, Flying Squirrel Bakery Cafe in Talkeetna, Alaska should be your first stop! This tiny little place offers some of the most unique, handcrafted pizza in the state. But they only serve on weekends, so make sure to clear up your schedule!
This cafe swiftly built a fabulous reputation on their delicious sandwiches and baked goods. The ingredients, when possible, are sourced from around Alaska and the owner's husband's farm.
They craft gourmet pies, with unique and enjoyable flavors! Their oven is a hot-brick oven, and they use it to bake the incredible fare that comes out of their kitchen.
Keep an eye out for their weekly specials, where they showcase ingredients like Alaska salmon and fiddleheads. They can turn ordinary vegetables into something special, like when they crafted an amazing asparagus pesto as one of their pizza toppings.
You can still order favorites like Pepperoni, and Plain Jane, which is your favorite mozzarella cheese pizza but better, with scratch-made marinara sauce. They also have a Mediterranean pizza on their regular rotation, as well as a fun creation called Nuts! which is topped with walnuts, pesto, chicken, and broccoli.
All pizzas come in two sizes, 10 inch and 15 inch. They come standard with their incredible, chewy, whole wheat crust. For a small fee, you can order your pizzas with a gluten free crust.
Their dessert and pastry selection is dotted with favorites like cupcakes, cheesecakes, and peanut butter pies. Or grab one of their scones or coffee cakes for breakfast tomorrow with your favorite cup of coffee!
