The Most Enchanting Lodge In Alaska Sits At The Foot Of A Glacier
Alaska has an astounding 100,000 glaciers, with 616 glaciers that are officially named. Knik Glacier is a gorgeous glacier just a 45 minute drive from the city of Anchorage, and the enchanting Knik River Lodge is situated right at the edge of one amazing glacier adventure!
If you're looking to get out of the bigger cities in Alaska, but still want to be connected to a clean, luxurious experience, the Knik River Lodge is the perfect blend of them both!
Located 50 miles north of Anchorage, it's an easy, lovely drive along an entirely paved road. One you hit Matanuska Valley, the road begins to parallel the stunning Knik River, which is fed from Knik Glacier.
Knik Glacier is over 25 miles long and 5 miles across.
It's located in the Chugach Mountains, and is one of the largest glaciers in south-central Alaska. It's a rather remote glacier, so this is one you'll most likely be visiting by yourself!
The glacier is gorgeous, but there are no roads providing access to it.
That is why the lodge has a helicopter on site! You can book a long or short tour, or even be dropped off on the glacier to explore.
The lodge has beautiful cabins available for you to rent for your stay.
They are stacked perfectly up against the side of a mountain, so each cabin each has an excellent view! The rooms are cozy and a short walk from the stunning lodge.
Each cabin has plenty of room, with king or queen bed options.
They each have fireplaces, mini fridges, and private bathrooms. The luxurious bedlinens are perfect after a day out in Alaska's backcountry!
The property has a delectable restaurant on the property, called the Raven's Perch.
With plenty of indoor seating and giant windows to see the panoramic views, the place is stunning. On gorgeous days you can have your meal out on the deck, paired with a glass of one of their fantastic wines!
The Knik River Lodge is the perfect place to base your Alaskan adventures from.
Whether you're hiking or biking the glacier, dining at their gorgeous restaurant, or getting out into the mountains for some amazing site seeing, this lodge is right in the heart of what south central Alaska has to offer.
You can experience the magic of Knik River Lodge during the summer months of May through September.
The lodge is also open to be rented out for aurora borealis viewing in the winter! You can visit the lodge or the amazing restaurant at their Address: 29979 East Knik River Road, Palmer, AK 99645-7311. You can drive out yourself, or contact the lodge about their shuttle service they offer from Anchorage!
