Alyeska Resort is home to the very popular Alyeska Tramway.
This fun tram takes you all the way up Mount Alyeska, 2,300 feet in the air! You will soar above the town of Girdwood, which is nestled into a valley in the Chugach mountain range.
The tram ride is a beautiful three to seven-minute ride above the valley floor.
You will start at the resort and head up to the top of the mountain. This ride allows you to take in all of the breathtaking sights, including seven glaciers in the nearby mountains!
During the autumn months, you'll be able to see the fall colors creeping down the mountains.
As the cold weather descends to the valley floor, the trees and plants change to brilliant red and yellow colors. Usually this is followed by "termination dust," our Alaskan term for when the mountains begin to be crested with snow!
This ride is popular all year round, and operates at a slower speed when the passengers are gazing at the lovely scenery!
That means spring, summer, and fall you can ride this tram while it's going at half-speed. In the wintertime, the tram tends to move quicker as the riders are usually those trying to ski or snowboard down the mountain.
There are two trams and they operate as a counterweight to each other, one heading up the mountain as one heads down.
You can expect to enjoy a top speed of 26 miles per hour while riding and gazing around. Each car can hold sixty people. This is to maximize the amount of passengers that want to enjoy the changing landscapes below.
The tram is 3,869 feet long.
It's an easy, gorgeous ride up to the top and worth every penny to see the views from this incredible vantage point. As the foliage drops it can be even easier to spot wildlife like moose or bear from the tram
The tram is open year-round for visitors wanting to gaze at the lovely scenery or visit the observation deck a the top of Mount Alyeska.
