There are so many unique and awesome things about the state of Alaska. When you’re from Alaska and you go on a vacation, it is almost guaranteed that 99% of people who ask where you’re from will have their jaw drop at your response. To us, it’s nothing crazy or out of this world, but to the rest of the United States, us Alaskan’s are truly one of a kind. Here are a handful of events throughout history that had everyone looking at Alaska in suspense and awe.
The US bought Alaska from the Russian Empire in 1867 at roughly 2 cents per acre! It was a territory until 1959 when it finally became a state.
Settlers came from far and wide to dig Alaska for gold. The territory was on everyones radar from 1890-1910s!

This famously massive 9.2 earthquake hit Alaska and killed 133 people. The Good Friday Earthquake was the second most powerful earthquake in the world since recorded history!
