Are there any train museums I can visit in Alabama?

The allure of trains and rail travel has appealed to many since the 19th century and to visit a train museum can allow us to step back in time. Our Historic Train Depot Trail in Alabama features several older depots, many of which have been turned into museums. In downtown Hunstville, you’ll find the Historic Hunstville Depot, the state’s oldest surviving depot, built in 1860. The Old Decatur Depot, built in 1905, was in operation until 1979. Now it serves as a museum and is on the National Register of Historic Places.

Aside from the Heart of Dixie Railroad Museum, there are several other train rides available around the state. At the Foley Railroad Museum & Model Train Exhibit, you can board a free train ride around Heritage Park where the museum is located.
