Waterfall Road Trips in Alabama

July 29, 2021

What are some fun, family-friendly road trips in Alabama?

One of the best things about living in a state as naturally beautiful as Alabama is the never-ending opportunities for epic road trips where you don’t even need to leave the state. Some of those are family-friendly, too! For example, Mobile Bay is an incredibly beautiful beach filled with intriguing history the whole family will find interesting. Make an entire day out of traversing the 32 miles of shoreline along the way. Alabama is also known for its legendary barbecue, and what family doesn’t love to sit down and eat together? Hope from joint-to-joint, sampling each and savoring all. Basically, if you can imagine a road trip based on it, you can probably drive it, too!

Are there any waterfalls in Alabama?

There most certainly are! In fact, Alabama is home to tens of thousands of falls – no joke! The Sipsey Wilderness’s nickname is “The Land of 1,000 Waterfalls”, and it can be kind of overwhelming to try and narrow your bucket list down to a few – so why bother? You can totally check each off one by one. Some of our favorite waterfalls in Alabama are the incredible DeSoto Falls, at Desoto State Park, and High Falls, at High Falls Park, is a dream destination for waterfall chasers and photographers alike. Need some more inspiration? Take a look at this list of nine ‘Bama waterfalls you might have never heard of.

What are the best hiking trails in Alabama?

Alabama is home to more than 60 different hiking, biking, and walking trails. Each of them has a charm all their own, and you definitely should check out as many as you can. Some of the most popular trails around the state are ones that happen to be particularly beautiful, like the Walls of Jericho Trail in Estillfork. You won’t believe the breathtaking views all over that one! We also love Sougahoagdee Falls Trail in the William B. Bankhead National Forest. Lovers of waterfalls will NOT want to pass that one up! Speaking of waterfalls, another great trail is the Little River Canyon trail at Little River Canyon National Preserve. The falls are incredible and anyone who has yet to see them is missing out!
