10 Things You’ve Grown To Undeniably Hate If You’re From Alabama
Without a doubt, Alabama is a great place to call home. However, many longtime residents have grown to hate it.
Listed below are 10 things many Alabamians have grown to undeniably hate about living in this state.
We’re aware that these uncertain times are limiting many aspects of life. While we continue to feature destinations that make our state wonderful, please take proper precautions or add them to your bucket list to see at a later date. If you know of a local business that could use some extra support during these times, please nominate them here:
1. Alabama is lacking when it comes to several popular retail stores.
For example, to visit the nearest IKEA, we must drive to Atlanta, Georgia.
2. The stereotypes keep coming!
No matter what, stereotypes are always going to be given to Alabamians. Not everyone in Alabama is a dumb redneck. Maybe someday outsiders will understand this, but we're not holding our breath.
3. Tornado Season
Here in Alabama, tornado season is no joke. Alabama ranks as #1 in most violent tornadoes, and sadly everyone here knows someone who has been affected by a tornado in one way or another.
4. There's no state lottery.
Yes, this issue is controversial, but an Alabama state lottery, in my opinion, could really help the state. Plus, most of the residents against a state lottery are the same ones driving across the state line to purchase a ticket. It would be so much better if this money stayed in Alabama, don't you agree?
5. Alabama is lacking when it comes to entertainment.
For example, many concerts aren't held in Alabama. Most of the time, we must travel to Georgia (Atlanta) or Tennessee (Nashville) in order to see the bigger concerts. Well, that's if we're lucky enough to score tickets.
6. Alabama's hot and humid summers are pretty much unbearable.
Yep! This pretty much sums it up! The moment summer arrives in Alabama, it's only a matter of time before we're all wishing for fall to arrive.
7. Many areas of Alabama have awful cell phone reception.
There are many rural areas located throughout Alabama. Whether you live in these areas or just passing through, good luck finding decent cell phone reception.
8. Alabama's traffic conditions can be quite frustrating.
For example, if you're driving in the larger cities, you've got to take on horrible drivers and hope you don't develop road rage. If you're taking an afternoon drive in the country, you have to worry about hitting a cow or getting stuck behind a tractor.
9. There are no major sports teams in Alabama.
Because Alabama isn't a densely populated state, there aren't any major sports teams here. This is a real bummer for sports fans.
10. Alabama's winters usually become an icy mess.
Sure, freshly-fallen snow is beautiful. However, when it snows here in Alabama, chances are it'll freeze the moment it starts to melt. This ice will then weigh down power lines, cause wrecks, etc. Basically, the ice will shut down the entire area and we'll be forced to stay inside and live by candlelight.
