7 Small Towns In Alabama That Are Full Of Charm And Perfect For A Weekend Escape
Many small towns help make up the great state of Alabama, several of which are quite charming and perfect for a weekend escape. Listed below, we’ve included seven small towns that are great to spend a weekend, whether as an overnight getaway or a day trip. You’ll want to visit them all!

Mentone, which is located in DeKalb County, is a tiny Alabama town that's situated atop of Lookout Mountain. It's a great place to visit because of its beautiful natural scenery and breathtaking views. It's also home to a variety of cozy bed and breakfasts, wonderful restaurants, and several unique shops.
Fairhope, Alabama is located on the eastern shore of Mobile Bay in Baldwin County. This lovely town is home to several spacious parks, beautiful tree-lined neighborhoods, and a wonderful downtown area with shops and restaurants.
Monroeville, which is best known as "The Literary Capital of Alabama," is the county seat of Monroe County. It's also the hometown of several award-winning writers and authors, including Harper Lee, Truman Capote, Cynthia Tucker, etc. The town's main attraction is the Old Monroe County Courthouse, which features the courtroom the film version of Lee's novel "To Kill a Mockingbird" was based on.
4. Magnolia Springs
Magnolia Springs is a beautiful town that's located in Baldwin County, Alabama. It's situated at the headwaters of the Magnolia River and is quite unique because it's home to the only U.S. water mail delivery route. Magnolia Springs features lots of beautiful scenery, a cozy bed and breakfast, and a wonderful place to dine - Jesse's Restaurant.
5. Fort Payne
Fort Payne is the county seat of DeKalb County, Alabama. One of the town's main attractions is Little River Canyon National Preserve, which is home to Little River Canyon and Little River Falls. Fort Payne also features a wonderful downtown area that offers several antique shops and restaurants. If you're a country music fan, this town is a great place to visit because it's also home to the ALABAMA Fan Club and Museum.
For anyone who loves Alabama history, a visit to Mooresville is an absolute must! This tiny town, which has less than 60 residents, was incorporated in 1818. What makes Mooresville so unique is the fact that the entire town is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It's also home to the state's oldest operational post office, which was built in 1840. There might not be a lot to do in this tiny town, but since it's located right outside of Huntsville, the options are endless.
Eufaula is a charming small town in Barbour County, Alabama. It's situated on a bluff and overlooks Lake Eufaula, which is one of the South's top fishing destinations. Besides its beautiful lake, Eufaula offers several other things for its visitors, including a variety of stores and restaurants.
