Moundville Archaeological Park, which is located in Moundville, Alabama, is home to one of the state's most interesting ancient ruins. In fact, it's even been called “The Big Apple of the 14th Century” by National Geographic.
Covering 326 acres and featuring nearly 30 platform mounds, this archaeological site was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1964 and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1966. It's an absolute must-visit for history enthusiasts of all ages!
Moundville Archaeological Park is situated along the Black Warrior River near Tuscaloosa. From 1000 AD to 1450 AD, numerous Native Americans of the Mississippian culture lived here.
