There's no denying that one of the most interesting exhibits is the Hodges Meteorite. The reason this meteorite is special is because it's the only one known to hit a human being.
On November 30, 1954 in Oak Grove, Alabama, which is located near Sylacauga, an 8.5-pound meteorite fell from the sky and hit Ann Hodges as she napped on her couch. Only receiving a bad bruise on one side of her body, she surprisingly survived the incident.
In 1956, Ann Hodges and her husband donated the meteorite to the Alabama Museum of Natural History. For protection, it's fully encased. However, there's a replica of it that you can hold. This will give you a better understanding of how heavy the meteorite truly was. The Hodges' Philco radio, which the meteorite bounced off of prior to hitting Ann, stands next to the Hodges Meteorite display.
