Oakleigh was built in 1833 by James W. Roper, a Virginian cotton broker. This historic mansion is among the rarest examples of Greek Revival-style architecture in the U.S.
Tours of Oakleigh are available on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. - on the hour. The last tour begins at 3:00 p.m. Oakleigh is closed on Wednesdays and Sundays.
Rates: $10 for adults and $8 for military, AAA, National Trust members, students and children over 5.
During your tour, you'll discover numerous artifacts. The Historic Oakleigh House collection includes more than 1,000 artifacts that tell the history of Mobile from the years 1830-1900. Oakleigh also has one of the finest art collections in the South.
A tour of the Union Barracks, which sits on the property, is included in the price of admission. This historic building was built in 1867, and it tells the story of Mobile's Reconstruction and Emancipation.
