It seems that more and more people are choosing to move to Alabama, or relocating to a different city. According to the U.S. Census, some cities are growing at a much faster rate than others. From small cities to large cities, and everything in between, listed below are Alabama’s 12 fastest-growing cities.

Helena is located in both Jefferson and Shelby counties. This suburb of Birmingham and has been voted one of the best places to live in Alabama. According to the U.S. Census, Helena had a population of 16,793 in 2010 and an estimated population of 18,673 in 2016, which resulted in a 1,880 population increase. Percentage growth: 11.2
Madison is located mostly in Madison County, and it's bordered by Huntsville on all sides. It's a great place to raise a family. According to the U.S. Census, Madison had a population of 42,938 in 2010 and an estimated population of 47,959 in 2016, which resulted in a 5,021 population increase. Percentage growth: 11.69
Opelika is the county seat of Lee County. It's well known for its attractive downtown area, which includes galleries, antique stores, specialty shops and more. According to the U.S. Census, Opelika had a population of 26,477 in 2010 and an estimated population of 29,869 in 2016, which resulted in a 3,392 population increase. Percentage growth: 12.81
Phenix City is located in both Lee and Russell counties. It's one of the best, and most affordable, places to raise a family. According to the U.S. Census, Phenix City had a population of 32,822 in 2010 and an estimated population of 37,132 in 2016, which resulted in a 4,310 population increase. Percentage growth: 13.13
Athens, the county seat of Limestone County, is the home of Browns Ferry Nuclear Power Plant, which was once the largest nuclear plant in the world. According to the U.S. Census, Athens had a population of 21,897 in 2010 and an estimated population of 25,393 in 2016, which resulted in a 3,496 population increase. Percentage growth: 15.97
Calera is a charming city in both Shelby and Chilton counties. Its most popular attraction is the Heart of Dixie Railroad Museum. According to the U.S. Census, Calera had a population of 11,620 in 2010 and an estimated population of 13,489 in 2016, which resulted in a 1,869 population increase. Percentage growth: 16.08
Auburn, located in Lee County, is home to Auburn University. Its unofficial nickname is "The Loveliest Village On The Plains." According to the U.S. Census, Auburn had a population of 53,380 in 2010 and an estimated population of 63,118 in 2016, which resulted in a 9,738 population increase. Percentage growth: 18.24
Gulf Shores, located in Baldwin County, is Alabama's top vacation destination. According to the U.S. Census, Gulf Shores had a population of 9,741 in 2010 and an estimated population of 11,689 in 2016, which resulted in a 1,948 population increase. Percentage growth: 20.0
Daphne, a city in Baldwin County, is situated on the eastern shoreline of Mobile Bay. Its nickname is ″The Jubilee City.″ According to the U.S. Census, Daphne had a population of 21,570 in 2010 and an estimated population of 25,913 in 2016, which resulted in a 4,343 population increase. Foley, located in Baldwin County, is one of the most visited cities on Alabama's Gulf Coast. Its nickname is "The Forward City." Chelsea, located in Shelby County, is a really close-knit town. After all, its motto is "It's all about family." Fairhope, which is located in Baldwin County, is one of Alabama's most charming towns. Last year, Southern Living magazine named Fairhope the "Best Small Town in the South."
