Located off the beaten path in a small rural town, Dismals Canyon is one of the few places in the world where dismalites live. These are rare insects that resemble glowworms.

Neversink Pit, which is now known as Neversink Preserve, is a limestone sinkhole with an overall drop of 162 feet. It's one of the most photographed sinkholes in the world and receives cavers from near and far.

Blount County is home to three of Alabama's historic covered bridges: Horton Mill Covered Bridge, Easley Covered Bridge, and Swann Covered Bridge. These three covered bridges are open to traffic and will remind you of yesteryear.

Little River Falls is located at Little River Canyon National Preserve. It's one of Alabama's most beautiful, recognizable, and accessible waterfalls.

Madison County Nature Trail is a great destination for a family day trip. It's a scenic park that covers 72 acres and features a covered bridge, a lake, a chapel, a log cabin, and so much more.

Hidden within Pratville's Wilderness Park is an authentic bamboo forest, which is one of the last things you'd expect to see in Alabama. Some of the stalks are as tall as 60 feet.

Turkey Creek Nature Preserve, which covers nearly 500 acres, is one of Alabama's most beautiful nature spots. It features a waterfall and is also one of the state's most popular swimming holes.

Natural Bridge is the main attraction at Natural Bridge Park in Natural Bridge, Alabama. Measuring 148 feet long, it's the longest natural bridge east of the Rocky Mountains.

Cherokee Rock Village features huge sandstone boulders that back 300 million years. It offers a beautiful view of Weiss lake and attracts rock climbers from all over the world. Cherokee Rock Village also offers camping opportunities and trails for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding.

The Tinglewood Carvings can be found within Montevallo's Orr Park. They're a collection of more than 30 whimsical tree cravings by artist Tim Tingle.
