People from Alabama are pretty tough. We’re survivors of hot summer temperatures, difficult jobs and stereotypes that seem to never end. You should never mistake our Southern hospitality for weakness, because we’re some of the toughest people you’ll ever meet.
1. We're survivors of hot summer temperatures...
It's not unusual for the thermostat to pass 100 degrees for a straight week during the summer months. To survive Alabama summers, we have to be tough.
2. ...and the high humidity that comes along with it.
The high humidity during the summer months is AWFUL! Positively DREADFUL!
3. Farming is a part of everyday life.
Farming isn't easy work, but the farmers here in Alabama work hard to get things done. This is definitely one of the toughest jobs in Alabama. Sadly, our farmers don't receive the credit they deserve. Remember, if it wasn't for farmers, we wouldn't be able to survive.
4. Our servicemen and women bravely serve our country.
There's no greater honor than serving in the military, and Alabama's soldiers are AWESOME! Serving in the military is the toughest job for both those serving and the ones waiting back home for their safe return.
5. We come together in times of tragedy.
When natural disasters strike in Alabama, and everything is taken away from us, we have to be tough in order to start over.
6. We work long hours...
Many jobs in Alabama are very labor intensive and require several hours a day. For example, construction workers, in many cases, work from daylight to dark.
7. ...in tough conditions.
Factory workers work long hours in tough conditions EVERY SINGLE DAY without complaining. These are tough people who also don't receive the credit they deserve. Their jobs are much tougher than many realize.
8. Sports have made us the tough people we are today.
We're trained from a young age to be competitive in all sports. When it comes to competing, we can't expect to win every time. When we lose, we get over it and move on.
9. We deal with all types of annoying wildlife.
Alabamians must be tough in order to survive the wildlife here. Whether it be a mosquito, a copperhead, or a deer darting out in the middle of the road, it seems that animals in this state are out to get us.
10. Stereotypes...ENOUGH SAID!!!!!
Here in Alabama, we've had to develop a thick skin because of the many stereotypes that come our way.
