Wyoming is a state dripping with authentic cowboy culture. Unlike a lot of our neighbors, we never stepped away from our roots. We still really value the culture that was established by those who came here before us. We’re still independent, we still have a strong respect for nature, and we love a great down home meal.
If you’re on the hunt for a traditional Wyoming meal, check out the seven restaurants below.
Named after the legend of Steamboat, a horse which was infamous for being almost impossible to ride, Steamboat's Steak and Smokehouse is an authentic western eatery located on Del Range Avenue.
The most interesting item on the menu is the Crab Stuffed Mushrooms, stuffed with spinach, artichoke, crab, and cheese.
Located on Happy Jack Road, this bar and grill is the hangout of choice for anyone looking for a great steak and a cool beer. Steaks are made to order; if you go, ask your waitress and she’ll hook you up!

If you’re a Wyoming native and you’ve never been to the Terry Bison Ranch, you owe it to yourself to come down and have a bison burger. The joint also has switches between showing football games and live music, depending on which time of year you go.

The Million Dollar Cowboy Bar has been offering down home hospitality to locals and travelers since they opened in 1936. They also do a great job of showing off a cool saloon aesthetic straight out of a Clint Eastwood Western.

Founded in 1900, the Buckhorn is the oldest bar in Laramie and one of the longest running establishments in the state. Like any other bar in Wyoming, the Buckhorn has a pretty comprehensive of must-have greasy (in a good way) bar food staples.
This is a local diner with all day breakfast. The joint claims to have the best green chili in town. Now, that’s subjective, but any restaurant claiming to have the best example of a western staple is definitely worth a try.
