The San Luis Rey Pepper Tree: One Of The Oldest Trees In SoCal

The beautiful and beloved pepper tree is on the grounds of the mission itself and is well-known by locals as one of the oldest trees in Southern California.

The prominent tree has been here since 1830, when a sailor who was a guest at the mission gave the missionaries some seeds to thank them for his stay. They planted them, and this one stayed put all this time.

The foliage stands out in a lovely way against the bright white mission in the background, making it the ideal photo background for you and your group.
