For stunning desert views in Nevada, you want to start your exploration at Valley of Fire State Park. The public recreation area and nature preserve cover nearly 46,000 acres in Overton, Nevada. The park’s name references the vibrant red sandstone structures that were formed by shifting sand dunes more than 150 million years ago. Talk about a history-rich area.

The Scenic Loop Road, true to its name, is one of the best ways to take in all the beauty this park has to offer.

The 2 mile point-to-point trail is frequently utilized for birding, biking, and scenic driving. The trail, of course, can also be walked and previous hikers recommend exploring the landscape on foot, even if you start the journey in a car.

Some hikers posit this trail as a less crowded alternative to the ever-popular Fire Wave in the same park. Others say the landscape feels like you're on mars.

Half the road is paved and half is a little rockier. If you want to spend more time within these rock formations, two campgrounds are located along the loop as well.
