The Last Super Moon Of 2021 Is Set To Rise Over South Carolina On June 24th

Each year brings a total of 12 or 13 full moons. Of those, usually three or maybe even four qualify as super moons, which applies to moons that are within 90% or greater of the moon’s mean closest approach to earth. This June, the last super moon of the year happens to be the Strawberry Moon. Get ready, South Carolina, because it’s a doozy.

The Algonquin tribes are credited with coining the name Strawberry Moon — which technically is the last full moon in any June.

The Algonquins found the moon aligned with the short growing season of the strawberry, and with that the moon was named.

It's also sometimes called the Honey Moon (not to be confused with the holiday newlyweds take, though).

Later this month, the Strawberry Moon will make an appearance on the afternoon of June 24th at approximately 2:40 p.m.

Of course, moon gazers all over South Carolina will be able to enjoy it through the night and into the morning hours of June 25th (a Friday, for those keeping score).

Super moons are incredible displays, appearing at 14% larger than normal full moons. They illuminate a night sky in a magical way.
