While one may think that the title of “richest on earth” should belong to someplace like Dubai, it actually belongs to that of historic Central City:

Located about an hour west of Denver, Central City is a tiny town of less than 800 that is best known for its exciting gambling and close proximity Black Hawk and its many casinos and resorts.

Settled in 1859, Central City was founded during the Pike's Peak Gold Rush, when miner John H. Gregory discovered a gold-bearing vein in the area, which - in turn - uncovered several more over the next several months.

Less than a year after the original gold vein discovery, more than 10,000 prospectors made their way to Central City, which quickly earned a reputation throughout the country as one of the wealthiest towns in the region.

While Central City and its sister city of Black Hawk were virtually deserted throughout the mid-20th century, the area managed to make a comeback in the early 1990s, when gambling was introduced to the area and casinos were built around both communities.
