There are certain images that are so recognizable that you don’t need any context to know what they are. Some of these have started to define West Virginia. They reflect our stories and folklore and some of our favorite places in the state. I bet all West Virginians will recognize these images.

1. Mothman

Of course we all recognize our favorite monster, Mothman, with those red eyes and silver wings.
2. The WVU Mountaineer

Even if you've never seen a Mountaineer game in your life you probably recognize WVU's mascot, the Mountaineer, with its buckskins, coonskin cap and rifle.
3. The New River Gorge Bridge

This bridge is definitely one of the most photographed places in the state and was even featured on our state quarter.
4. The Tudor's Biscuit sign

The yellow Tudor's Biscuit logo, with its brown lettering and sunrise, is especially appealing for those who are hungry and craving a biscuit.
5. Seneca Rocks

Seneca Rocks is probably the state's most recognized rock formation.

The Flying WVY has been called one of the most recognizable logos in college sports.
11. Blackwater Falls

Blackwater Falls in Davis is another one of those places that defines the state. You can find its image on all sorts of things, from post cards to puzzles.
