The Palmetto State is a magnificent place to visit if you are a fan of nature. There’s much to see and do in the state, from hiking to kayaking to meditating. There is also camping, and if you select the right overnight destination, you might just be treated to some of the most beautiful stargazing in South Carolina.

The state parks, isolated from big cities and their light pollution, are some of the most magnificent destinations to view the nighttime sky. King Mountain, up near the border of North Carolina, has a campsite that’s perfect for fans of stargazing. Pack up the camping gear, because this local landscape will leave you enchanted.

Kings Mountain is both a National Military Park and a State Park in South Carolina, with the former landscape marking the boundaries of a Patriot victory during the Revolutionary War.

At Kings Mountain National Military Park, American Patriots and American Loyalists clashed. Thomas Jefferson would note the encounter as a turning point in the Revolutionary War.
Both spots are magnificent during the daytime, and the state park alone has more than 40 miles of hiking and equestrian trails plus two lakes that are perfect for fishing and paddling.

However, you'll find that the park grows more magical as dusk approaches.

Kings Mountain National Military Park consists of 3,945 acres, and the state park consists of 6,885 acres. All in all, you'll find yourself isolated in a magical patch of forest that's fairly isolated from the developed world. Prepare for birdsong, peeper frogs, and the calls of nighttime insects.
