This remote beach is located right next to the Oregon border and although it's relatively easy to access, it's not very well traversed. So, if empty beaches are your thing, Pelican State Beach is definitely the place to be.
Like all state beaches, Pelican Beach is open from sunrise to sunset. You can find it by taking US-101 north of Smith River to White Rock Loop Road. Take this road to the end where you'll find a parking area for the beach.
From the parking lot, there is a short trail that will take you the .1-mile down to the beach. After making your way through some long grass, you'll be treated to an exceptional view of beautiful Pelican Beach.
Comprised of five acres, popular activities at the beach include fishing, surfing, beach-combing, and simply walking along the coastline. Note the gigantic pieces of redwood driftwood scattered all over the shore!
Pelican Beach definitely isn't the biggest or most developed beach in Northern California, but that's exactly what makes it so enjoyable. There's something about the beach's remote location and quiet beauty that makes it feel like your own little slice of paradise.
