Kansas is only as good as its small towns are, and it’s a good thing we have so many great ones. This small town doesn’t have a lot of people, but what it does have a lot of, is horses and love for its heritage. If you’ve always wanted to see something like this, then look no further. This town is as beautiful as it gets!
Valkommen (welcome) to Lindsborg, Kansas, also known as Little Sweden to many.
This tiny town of around 3300 people is so rich in Swedish history, that you can't really travel a block without seeing some part of it. That's not a bad thing however, because they display it in beautiful shades of red and blue wherever you go.
There's one thing that they have more than people, and that's definitely horses. These Dala horses are a symbol of Sweden no matter where you find them, chosen to represent Sweden in the U.S. back in 1939 at the World's Fair.
They're common to see everywhere in town, from shop windows to business signs to larger statues found all over town decorated with more than the traditional red.
Though some have themes a little silly and off topic, each one is hand painted with care. Just look at this amazing Dala horse painted to look like stained glass!
Local crafters work hard hand painting each and every horse you find around town. Each one is unique in every brush stroke that makes it so bright and beautiful. It's said that you can't find this shade of red anywhere but here and Sweden.
If you happen to fall in love with these horses, like many visitors do, they have a shop in town where you can pick out your very own Dala horse to bring home and add some color to your life.
Imagine just how many Dala horses have made their way through this shop and through the town itself over the years. Maybe you'll help one or more horses on its way during your next visit! The more the merrier, after all.
Some of the best times to stop by are during one of their Swedish festivals or when you'd like to hike around Coronado Heights for a while. There's never a shortage of things to see here, that's for sure.
