As with just about everything in this world, things change and evolve. Gone are the days when you could bring the kids along to buy some bread and other staples at the local general store – and then make a special stop at the store’s penny candy counter. Those days may be gone forever, but the penny candy concept (pay by the pound or by the piece) still remains and the evolution of the penny candy counter itself has magnified the selection beyond imaginable proportions.

River Street Sweets began on Savannah's famed River Street in 1978. The concept grew, changed, and flourished into franchised locations throughout the South. There are seven locations in all: three are in Georgia, and four are in South Carolina (North Charleston, Charleston, Broadway at the Beach/Myrtle Beach, and Barefoot Landing/N. Myrtle Beach.)
