Compared with places like Australia, where tornadoes include lightning and dipping a toe in the water could lead to an immediate poisonous sting, Maine seems pretty tame. But, what people don’t realize is that we do actually have some things to worry about here. Things like being blinded by the beauty of autumn’s leaves, for instance!

One of my favorite activities in the summer is launching my kayak in a tributary leading to the beach. If you've ever done it, you know that you simply pull your kayak up the beach and spend the day enjoying the Maine coast. But, beware! With some of the most dramatic tide shifts in the USA, it's easy to miscalculate and watch your kayak drift out to sea just moments later.
It's easy to find yourself lost in the sunset on a typical Maine evening. The risk here? Going hungry. With so many incredible sunsets every day near dinnertime, you'll lose track of time.
If you're not busy watching the incredible sunset, you may get sucked into all the delicious dinner options on offer in Maine. And, although we do lobster better than any other state, you can get just about anything here.
There are more than 4,600 islands off the coast of maine and a fair few of them have no inhabitants. If you happen to be met with some rough seas in Casco Bay, you may find yourself living out your eternity on one of the most beautiful, tiny islands in the country. Oops.
Okay, this one is serious. Maine is home to some pretty dangerous ticks that have caused serious illness and death. When you head outdoors, tuck your pants into your socks and always, always do a full check once back indoors.
8. Thinking the night sky anywhere else is boring.

In Maine, we're casual and comfortable. Move here and you risk alienating your old friends who wouldn't dream of stepping out to a wedding without heels!
There's something about the natural beauty in Maine that draws out the creativity in the folks here. Whether it's painting, writing, photography or playing music, Maine will inspire you to drop everything and create your magic. Sometimes that magic is bag piping in Acadia. To no one in particular.
Push yourself off the dock and never look back. Nothing else needs to exist when you've got all the beauty, food, love, and stars of Maine.
