Winthrop is an old wild west town complete with wooden boardwalks, western-themed storefronts and all kinds of things to do! It’s only home to about 415 residents year-round, but its country charm and endless activities make it a popular destination to visit. If you’re up for an adventure in the wild west, here are 10 reasons why you’ve got to plan a trip to this unique community in Okanogan County:
Just walking along the street will make you feel like you're an old cowboy. It hasn't always been themed - the town used to be a huge site for gold mining and only became restored with a Wild West concept in 1972 when the construction of Highway 20 was nearly complete.

If you go for a stroll through the boardwalk shops, you can take an old time portrait, be inspired by the fine art galleries, or find gear at outdoor sporting good stores. The local shops have a unique selection of Western memorabilia to browse though, as well as home decor and custom jewelry.

Winthrop is the largest cross-country skiing location in the whole nation with over 120 miles of groomed trails. The town is also home to an award-winning ice rink, plus many other exhilarating activities this season, including sledding, snowmobiling and snowshoeing.
Three Fingered Jack's Saloon is a classic saloon that features old-school swinging doors, hardwood floors, billiards, TVs, and some delicious pub food options to pair with your drink.
It's truly a winter wonderland up here, and a cabin will keep you warm and comfortable after a long day out exploring the Wild West. The Sun Mountain Lodge (pictured), River's Edge Resort, and Chewuch Inn & Cabins are a few of the wonderful lodging options.

Besides the picturesque storefronts downtown, the entire area is surrounded by stunning scenery along the North Cascades Highway. You can also catch some splendid views while crossing over the local bridges like the Spring Creek and Sa Teekh Wa Bridge.

The Winthrop Balloon Festival is held on the first weekend every March, as well as the Chamber Music Festival and Winthrop R&B Festival during the summer, in addition to many others.
The award-winning Old Schoolhouse Brewery is a popular tavern that offers microbrews, pub food, live music, a seasonal beer garden, and a patio with stunning views of the Chewuch River.
After you're done exploring all the Wild West fun that Winthrop has to offer, you can head over to this park located just to the west of town.
