The Mammoth Site started back in 1974 when builders were digging to place new housing and came across a tusk.

Many volunteers took initiative to dig up these ancient bones, the owners of the land realized that it would be better purposed for scientific study than housing. Soon after, the Mammoth Site of Hot Springs was turned into a nonprofit, and continues to conduct research on the findings.

Now you can travel back to ancient times and learn about woolly mammoths, camels, wolves, and other mammals that left an impact.

The Ice Age exhibit houses life-sized displays of mammoths and bears, and after walking through the exhibits, you can sink in the dirt and dig up fossils for yourself.

This excavation site actively features fossils of over 60 mammoths. There's never a dull moment at this awesome activity.
