If you’ve spent years watching the adventures of Time Lords, reading about hobbits, and dreaming of being a wizard, there’s an event coming up that will totally delight you. It’s the 5th annual Britishfest, and it celebrates all of those fantastical worlds and more.
Britishfest is held in Omaha. This year, it will be August 4th and 5th. The theme for the 2018 fest is Time and Space - a theme that's near and dear to the hearts of many.
Costumes aren't required, but let's be honest - everything is more fun when you dress up! You'll see people sporting outfits and makeup from all kinds of British books, TV shows, and movies. You might even see a member or two of the royal family make an appearance.
Every year there are props, sets, and displays to admire and take pictures with. The Dr. Who control panel and life-size Tom Baker mannequin are extremely popular.
You can also visit Bag End and pretend to be Gandalf popping in to visit Bilbo or Frodo. (Don't worry - you aren't the only one who will feel compelled to ask "Is it secret? Is it safe?")
Besides the props and the always-fun people watching (look at all those Dr. Whos!), there are special guests, discussion panels, games, and presentations that tie in to that year's theme and to the overarching British theme.
The subjects represented here go far beyond what you'd normally expect to see at a comic or sci-fi con. This festival celebrates everything British, from the food to the music and plenty more.
Vendors attend with a variety of wares to sell. They're all fascinating in their own way, and you'll have almost as much fun shopping as you will attending the events and meeting other Anglophiles.
Set aside your favorite striped scarf (of the Potter or Who variety), get your camera ready, and make plans to attend the 2018 Britishfest. This is a party unlike any other.
