I am somewhat a cliche'. I grew up running around barefoot on a farm in Kentucky.
I love writing, art, sunshine, all animals and my incredibly patient husband, who tolerates my "crazy animal lady" side.
Kentucky was once known as the great hunting grounds by the tribal people who traveled the lands before society as we know it took over. If you love Mother Nature and like to spend time in her domain, the Bluegrass State has plenty to offer. We have acres upon acres of gorgeous state parks, filled with an array of flora, fauna, trees, and wildlife. Each forest has its own special atmosphere and makes for an inviting getaway from city life.
This is a beautiful 780 acre forest west of Morehead in Bath County. It's a favored spot of Morehead students when it comes to both researching and experiencing nature.
Jenny Wiley is known for Dewey Lake, which has a reputation for its fantastic fishing, but it has more to offer then just fresh fish. JW is actually a state park offering visitors over 7000 acres of beautiful woodlands to enjoy in Floyd County.
This little publisized forest consists of over 874 acres in Carter County. The renowned Carter Caves is located within its borders, which is a great place to get away and enjoy nature’s beauty and serenity.
Located just south of Pine Mountain in Harlan County is over 4000 acres of incredible woodlands, perfect of a weekend getaway. This park is not as known as some of the others in our beautiful state, but those who visit will find an incredible array of scenic beauty and serenity.
This amazing forest is the largest in Kentucky, consisting of 2,100,000 acres and covering 18 counties in the eastern part of the state. It holds within its borders some of the most beautiful scenery and camping areas available, including Red River Gorge.
This gorgeous forest covers over 14,000 acres and is overflowing with a variety of trees, plants, and wildlife. There are hiking trails, suspension bridges, lakes, and just all around perfect places to relax and soak up some nature. I was blessed to spend a lot of time here as a child, and it's truly a wonderful place to get away for a little while and enjoy the woodlands.
There are over 15,000 acres of this state park located in Pineville. This beautiful section of preserved woodlands is home to the Pine Mountain State Resort Park. Camping is available in cabins, or nature lovers can just pitch a tent in a favored spot.
This beautiful park in Kentucky has over 15,000 acres and is located in Dawson Springs. It's a great place to visit with the family for a picnic, hike, or just a pleasant afternoon in Mother Nature.
The Gorge is part of the Daniel Boone National Forest, but it's a special place loved by all that visit there. If you want to spend a perfect weekend getaway, the Gorge is as good as it gets. It's known for camping, fishing, rafting, kayaking, climbing, and just being incredibly beautiful and serene. Cabins are available for camping in a variety of areas, or wildlife lovers can bring their own tent and rough it.
