Have you ever looked at your map and thought to yourself, “Who named a town something like this?” Well, we’ve collected just a few of them for you. From famous cities in other states to words that are just plain odd, these towns are one of a kind. They don’t sound like names for places in Kansas, but here they are, the silliest names we’ve got.
Coffeyville is not actually a place of many coffees, but it is a great small town to spend the day exploring. Eat at Lannings, grab a drink at Yoke, and make an adventure out of it.
Sedans are a type of vehicle, though I don't imagine they could guess that in 1876 when the town was founded. However, it always makes me chuckle as I come through the town named after a car.

I think Home (also called Home City) is a silly name because of how literal it is. Though it was established under this name due to a post office created in someone's home in 1874. However, not knowing the history of this tiny unincorporated town, you would only assume it was just a name picked when they were out of ideas.

Okay, everyone has a day where they slack off for a while and don't accomplish much. However, I want to meet the person who named this town Plains, and give them an award. It's the home of the widest Main street in the U.S. at 155 feet 5 inches. Both the Plains Tavern and Mama Finas are great places to eat if you'd like a tasty meal while you're here, though.

Garfield is a lovely town, but I can't help but think of a loveable orange cat that loves lasagna more than anything else. In reality, we all can guess that it's named after President Garfield, but I can't stop seeing that cat. As for great places to be here, I'd recommend the Altitude Chophouse.
Sometimes you just have to wonder what could inspire someone to name a place something like Long Island. Where's the island? Only around 120 people are estimated to live there now, so it's definitely a far cry from the famous Long Island it shares a name with. Nevertheless, they have some amazing views and great food.
Whether you mis-read it as "holy-rod" or "Holly-rood", it's a funny name to try and say. The first settlers here were Irish, but it's grown to almost 500 residents since then. They really are a "Little city with lots of pride."
The town of Gas likes to go by Gas, Kan for obvious reasons. It's a chuckle-worthy name for an otherwise tiny town of just over 500 people. Taking a photo of the water tower is a must for any Kansan, if you ask me.
