SoCal has long been joked about and made fun of in the media for its large emphasis on entertainment culture and liberal political mindset. When most folks think of Southern California, they think of a surfer drawl, a low-key attitude, and a hidden talent for surfing the Pacific Ocean waves. SoCal residents are also considered highly health-conscious and environmentally concerned, which isn’t untrue. Other than its highly expensive cost of housing, quite a few folks find SoCal to be a wonderful place to live. Locals have easy access to the desert in Palm Springs and the mountains of Big Bear, and there’s always something going on in Los Angeles. If folks can afford it, places like Santa Barbara and San Diego offer a beautiful local landscape and small-town vibe in the midst of a big city.

People can make fun of SoCal all they want, but since a whopping 60% of Californians live in the region there has to be something that keeps them there. Perhaps it’s the gorgeous weather, the great beaches, and fabulous bar scene, or the fresh produce and easy access to national and state parks.
