Located along Colorado’s Western Slope is that of the Little Book Cliffs Wild Horse Area; a jaw-dropping 36,000 acres where hikers and bikers can explore and see gorgeous wild horses running free amidst the rugged countryside. Introduced to the area by Spanish explorers in the mid-1500s, both these wild horses and their home are protected by the Bureau of Land Management, noting that there are only three of these free-range areas for horses remaining in the country. In addition to being managed by the BLM, the Little Book Cliffs Wild Horse Area is also ran by the Friends of the Mustangs, whose job it is to keep the area clean, the horses healthy, and to even find adoptive homes for some of the animals.
