The town was established in 1809 and earned the nickname "the town two miles long and two yards wide" because it was developed along a narrow ridge that overlooked the Mississippi River.

Although a fire destroyed the antebellum mansion in 1963, the Trimble family began restoring the grounds in 1972. Today, the 20 acres of formal gardens are among the most picturesque in the state.
Known for its historic plantations, its location along the Mississippi River made the town a commercial and cultural center for the surrounding plantation country.

And of course, a trip to St. Francisville wouldn’t be complete without visiting the Myrtle Plantation.

Known as the most haunted plantation in the country, there are allegedly several spirits who roam the grounds. Take a tour and learn more about the history of this famous planation, or if you really want an adventure, stay the night.
