This Castle In Wyoming's State Park Is Not What You Would Expect

Most people go to state parks to camp, fish and hike but at this one park in Wyoming you need to go to check out the architecture. This architecture isn’t what you would expect to find in Wyoming, instead, it looks like something out of the medieval era. Believe it or not, there’s a castle in Guernsey State Park.

The Castle in Guernsey State Park was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps.

This unique structure is made of local sandstone, hand-forged iron and hand-hewn logs.

The Castle was built during the Depression as an effort by President Roosevelt and Congress to put people back to work and to preserve our natural resources.

From the Castle, you can enjoy gorgeous views of the park.

This unique structure or Castle is actually a two room picnic shelter.

You can picnic right by the giant fireplace.

These winding steps lead to an observation area.

The observation area offers great views of the park and reservoir.

This is one of the best examples of Civilian Conservation Corps in the state.

It cost $6,000 to build in the 1930s.

It would probably cost $1 million to build the exact same structure today.
