It’s fun to make your own itinerary, but sometimes it’s fun to hand over the keys to the experts, sit back and relax, and let them show you around. In Wisconsin, there are certain tours you just need to take at some point. A lot of them are free or cheap. Here are 10 you should definitely take.
1. Miller Beer Tour (Milwaukee)
Tour the most iconic brewery in Wisconsin. The tour is free. You can see how all the beer is made, and check out an old beer cave. The best part, of course, is that you get large glasses of beer at the end of the tour (and pretzels). Tours are 30 minutes long.
2. Madison Capitol Building
When you are in Madison, you should definitely make plans to tour the capitol. If there are fewer than 10 people in your group, no reservations are needed. The architecture is beautiful, including the great dome. There are stellar views of the lakes, too.
3. Original Wisconsin Ducks
It's not a trip to the Dells without a trip on the Ducks. The Ducks are amphibious vehicles that take you through the Dells on an hour-long tour. You will not believe your eyes with the gorgeous views.
4. Lake Geneva Canopy Tours
Want to walk along the tree tops? You can take a canopy tour. These bridges and zip lines are set in 100 acres of forest. The views are stunning.
5. Madison Ghost Tour
This tour is great fun to see some of the haunted locations in Madison. You will learn all the haunted stories, the history and the folklore. It's the right amount of scary, with nothing popping out to scare you--just good old-fashioned ghost stories.
6. Packers Heritage Trail
Of course, everyone has to tour Lambeau Field at some point. But you should check out the fairly new Packers heritage trail. The trail runs through Green Bay. There are numerous plaques that detail where important things in Packers history took place.
7. Seaquist Tours
Riding a segway is something everyone should try at some point. This particular company (located in Sister Bay) is great because you will get an awesome trip through the woods. It's gorgeous as you zip through the trails.
8. Fox River Tours

Enjoy the Fox River like never before, on a 55 foot riverboat. The cruises last 90 minutes. On Fridays, you can kick back and relax and enjoy music on the boat. Located in De Pere!
9. Self-Guided Cranberry Tours
Wisconsin is all about cranberry production, and if you've never seen them close up, you need to. Trust us, it's cooler than it sounds. There are several tours to take in Central Wisconsin (and a few in northern).
10. Apostle Islands Kayak Tour
Everyone needs to see the Apostle Islands at some point. They are truly stunning. But you definitely need to see them the way they were meant to be experienced: by kayak. We strongly recommend going on a tour, or at least in a decent sized group. Lake Superior is very cold, even in the summer, and you can get hypothermia very quickly if you fall into the water.
