Everyone is busy making New Year’s Resolutions about things to change for next year. One of the things I know I don’t do enough of is to actually get to those really cool places I swear I’ll go to “one of these days.” Here are 16 things every Wisconsinite should do in Wisconsin this year.
1. Visit the Apostle Islands.
Many Wisconsinites are unaware that this awesome chain of 21 islands exists at the top of our state. During the summer, you can kayak through the sea caves.
2. Catch a game at Lambeau Field.
Lambeau Field is the best venue in all of sports, and it's right here in our state! Get up to Green Bay and go to a game this year.
3. Go on a brewery tour.
The Miller Tour is great, but you will really appreciate the tour they do at New Glarus.
4. Feed the giraffes.
It's one thing to see giraffes in the zoo, and quite another to feed them! You can get this experience at the Milwaukee County Zoo and NEW Zoo.
5. Head out and go ice fishing.
Get in your warmest gear and head out either alone or with the family to catch some fish. It's pretty incredible.
6. Eat a cream puff at the Wisconsin State Fair.
If you go to the Wisconsin State Fair, you need to eat a cream puff. But don't worry, if you like savory, there are plenty of culinary delights just waiting for you.
7. Attend Summerfest.
It's the largest music festival in the world! You can see some of the greatest acts, all in one place.
8. Go to a pow-wow.
Native Americans are a huge part of our culture in Wisconsin, and if you get the opportunity to attend a pow-wow, you will learn a whole lot.
9. Be a seafarer.
Sure, we've all been out on the water to go tubing. But have you actually tried operating your own sailboat?
10. Go spelunking.
Cave of the Mounds is probably your best bet for the ultimate Wisconsin cave experience.
11. Be brave and eat Limburger cheese.
It's stinky, there's a high chance you won't like it, but you only live once.
12. Check out Taliesin.
Head to Spring Green to explore Frank Lloyd Wright's private residence.
13. See where cranberries come from.
A cranberry marsh doesn't seem like the most exciting thing to visit, but it's really interesting to see how they are harvested. And it's gorgeous.
14. Drive down Highway 42 in Door County.
Unless you easily get carsick, this road is a ton of fun to drive down (and beautiful, too!).
15. Hike Devil's Lake State Park.
While there are many places to hike in Wisconsin, you are in for a real treat if you've never been here.
16. Enjoy a weekend at EAA Airventure.
Each July, Oshkosh is flooded with 500,000 people and 10,000 airplanes.
What places are you definitely going to get to this upcoming year? Let us know in the comments.
