The holiday season means a lot of things, and one of those is stress. Between shopping for presents and attending Christmas parties and preparing all that fun, there is a lot to do. If you’re looking for a way to keep your sanity this season, consider some of the following suggestions:
1. Being out in nature.
Research has shown that being in nature helps with stress. And since about 3/4 of the state is forest, we've got plenty of it to enjoy.
2. Visiting Berkeley Springs State Park
In addition to a bathtub that George Washington used to frequent, Berkeley Springs State Park has Roman baths, jacuzzi and saunas. Massages are also available. It’s the perfect way to relax and also experience history at the same time.
3. Having coffee at your favorite coffee shop
This one is pretty simple and inexpensive but it's so enjoyable. When was the last time you stopped at Moxxee in Charleston (or any of the countless coffee shops in WV)?
4. Doing some yoga
Yogis know how good and relaxing a yoga class can be. If you’ve never tried one, consider making time for a class during the busy Christmas season. You won’t regret it. This one is Happy Goat Yoga in Wheeling. You could also try Lifespring or Folded Leaf in Charleston or any of the countless other studios across the state.
5. By visiting the Greenbrier
The Greenbrier resort in White Sulphur Springs offers some luxury and a perfect place to relax.
6. ...Or any of the other resorts in the state
Like the Resort at Glade Springs.
7. By skiing
It’s just about time that the state’s ski resorts open for the season, too.
8. By curling up with a good book (and maybe your cat?)
This one is free if you, like me, have books around your place that you haven't read. It's hard to stay stressed when you're engrossed in a good story.
9. By watching the sunset behind a mountain.
Can you think of a better view?
10. Avoiding WVU men's basketball
I’m mostly kidding about this one. I have nothing but love for the Mountaineers, but that recent game against the Virginia Cavaliers was hard to watch, ammiright?
11. Taking a drive down a beautiful country road.
We've got plenty to choose from.
