This little town was made famous as the setting of the best-selling memoir
Rocket Boys by Homer Hickam, which was made into the movie October Sky. It tells the story of a boy's pursuit of amateur rocketry in a coal mining town. Coalwood celebrates this each year with the October Sky Festival.
Gassaway was built to be a central location for the Coal and Coke Railway. The town built up around the railway station, but always retained its small town charm.
This railroad town once served as a stop for passengers, but now only freight trains pass through. The old passenger station is now a museum.
Sistersville is a little town on the Ohio River, and has the oldest ferry in West Virginia.

Worthington runs along the West Fork River, and has a population of just 170. It's a popular place to just spend a day fishing.
6. Capon Bridge
This town of 355 is named after a bridge over the Cacapon River. It's home to a number of historic buildings, like this old general store.
Grafton is known as the home of Mother's Day, and was also one of the first places to observe Memorial Day. It was once a junction point for the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad. Now it's a peaceful little city next to Tygart Lake State Park.
The only town with its name in the United States, Hundred was named after resident Henry "Old Hundred" Church, who lived to be 109 years old. The town once served as a stop for the B&O railroad.
This little town of 1,344 was incorporated in 1912. It was the
hometown of the late U.S. Senator Robert C. Byrd.
10. Green Bank
Green Bank is the center of the United States National Radio Quiet Zone, designed to protect the airwaves for the Green Bank Telescope to function at its best. In town you'll find that wifi, cell phones, and even microwaves are banned, so you'll be forced to take it easy and live life the old fashioned way. That's not always a bad thing!
