This little town was made famous as the setting of the best-selling memoir Rocket Boys by Homer Hickam, which was made into the movie October Sky. It tells the story of a boy's pursuit of amateur rocketry in a coal mining town. Coalwood celebrates this each year with the October Sky Festival.
Gassaway was built to be a central location for the Coal and Coke Railway. The town built up around the railway station, but always retained its small town charm.

This railroad town once served as a stop for passengers, but now only freight trains pass through. The old passenger station is now a museum.

Sistersville is a little town on the Ohio River, and has the oldest ferry in West Virginia.

Worthington runs along the West Fork River, and has a population of just 170. It's a popular place to just spend a day fishing.
