This Swimming Spot Has The Clearest, Most Pristine Water In West Virginia

Summersville Lake has long been known as the clearest lake in West Virginia, and some say East of the Mississippi! Summersville Lake was unfortunately struck by the flooding in June of 2016, but there’s good news: the lake opened for swimming again on July 30th. Here is a link to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers update about the lake, with a phone number where you can hear the current status.

Summersville Lake has an interesting history. There are remnants of a town under its waters. You can learn more about that here.
