That’s exactly what drivers sign up for when they opt for the infamous Back of the Dragon in Tazewell County. While this route is certainly intimidating, it does promise some beautiful scenery along the way. Here’s more on Virginia’s windiest road that’s definitely not for the faint of heart:

When viewed from an aerial perspective, it’s no mystery how the Back of the Dragon got its name. Also known as Route 16, this epic drive winds its way through the landscape of southwestern Virginia.

The route winds between the two scenic towns of Marion and Tazewell and requires adventurers to pass over no fewer than three mountains.

Since crossing through the Appalachian Mountains is no easy feat, the 32-mile road adapts with some 300 curves that act as switchbacks through the mountain passages.
