Tucked away in Afton, Virginia stands one of the most scenic breweries and restaurants in the state. Blue Mountain Brewery, lovingly referred to as "the rural destination brewpub" was established in 2007 as the first brewery in all of Nelson County. In less than 10 years, it’s made quite an impressive name for itself, and with such outstanding mountain views, it’s no mystery why.

All beers are brewed either on site or at the nearby location of the Blue Mountain Barrel House, photographed above at sunset. Between these two sites, over 10,000 barrels of beer are crafted each year. Some of the favorite brews are known as the Classic Lager, Full Nelson Pale Ale, and Kolsch 151.

While most breweries are focused solely on drinks, Blue Mountain has an equally impressive food scene. It’s a full-service restaurant that offers unique appetizers, burgers, salads, sandwiches and perhaps most famously, pizzas. Shown above is the homemade brat, which also makes for an excellent pizza topping. All menu items are made from scratch using the finest qualities around.
