The breathtaking Highland County is located beyond the Shenandoah Valley in an area that boasts the highest mean elevation of anywhere east of the Mississippi.

Tucked away in the Allegheny Mountain Range, the county has a population of just over 2,000 and is the least populous in Virginia.

Each year, the festival takes place in Monterey, the county seat of Highland that’s just 45 miles west of Staunton.

Once you try the homemade maple syrup, you’ll understand why nearly 50,000 people flock to this part of Virginia each year. The festival is set to take place March 10th-11th, and 17th-18th of next year.

Gorgeous any time of year, Highland County flourishes during the spring and summer. As you gaze out upon the valley, you’ll notice over 400 square miles of mountain terrain.

The town of Monterey is equally charming, with bed and breakfasts, a historic courthouse, and plenty of shops and breweries to spend time.
