This Rare Footage Of A Virginia Amusement Park Will Have You Longing For The Good Old Days

Kings Dominion opened its doors on May 3rd, 1975. It had been a dream of its founders to establish a theme park north of Richmond and south of the Nation’s capital, but no one could have foreseen the amount of success this park would generate. The 1970s was an exciting time for the brand new Kings Dominion. Some of its earliest attractions included the Lion Country Safari Monorail, the Log Flume, Steam Train, and the Rebel Yell Roller Coaster. By the beginning of the following decade, Kings Dominion was on the map for one of the finest family destinations in the area.

The following footage that was taken in the 1970s shows the novelty of the rides and the pure joy of visitors to the park. You’ll catch glimpses of roller coasters that were revolutionary for their time, in addition to the Log Flume and other rides.
