Vermont is known for its quaint towns, and in many of these places it’s the Mom & Pop restaurants take the (homemade) cake. From the local maple syrup on your pancakes to the fresh veggies in your salad, these places in VT shouldn’t be missed!
1. Vergennes Laundry Wood Fired Bakery - 247 Main St, Vergennes
The freshly baked breads here are as authentic as you are going to get. The owners are from France and boy do they know their art! The Bakery serves traditional French pastries and bread with excellent breakfast dishes in an incredibly charming upscale little shop. You can also find them at the Shelburne Farmers Market Saturdays from 9-1.
2. Chauncey's Family Dining - 5403 Rt 7A, Arlington
Chauncey's has been has been serving breakfast 7 days a week for almost 20 years. Simple, friendly and delicious food in a quaint VT setting. Real Vermont maple syrup is the standard at breakfast and the corn-beef hash is excellent.
3. The Silver Fork - 4201 Main St, Manchester
This 6 table, 6 barstool venue is small and intimate with delicious works of art on each plate. The owners, Mark and Melody, have perfected hospitality and fresh meals, not to mention an amazing wine list!
4. MacLaomainn’s Scottish Pub - 52 S Main St, Chester
A tasty and delightful pub planted in the middle of a small town. Serving up Scottish hospitality in the hills of Vermont, you'll find everything from traditional bangers and mash to a bartender in a kilt.
5. Vermont Apple Pie - 265 Depot St, Proctorsville
The only thing that is sweeter than the smells coming out of the kitchen is the taste of the freshly baked goods. You'll find amazing food and friendly service at this Mom & Pop Shop!
6. Bryant House Restaurant at The Vermont Country Store - 657 Main St, Weston
Now that's what I call a burger! Whether you live in the area, or are on a hike on the Appalachian Trail, this is one place that's worth a stop for sure!
7. Maple Valley Cafe and Gift Shop - 8195 US Rt 2, Marshfield
From unique gifts to delicious meals, this is one place that will delight you in every way. If you're looking for a place a little off the beaten path with great outdoor seating - this is your place!
8. Sushi Boat - 4973 Main St, Manchester Center
If you don't think you can find great sushi in Vermont, think again! Ralph, the owner/chef goes above and beyond to be personable and to please his customers who keep coming back for more. Try the the "let it roll" and the "firecracker." There is truly something for everyone and it's all so amazing.
9. Windsor Station Restaurant & Barroom - 26 Depot Ave, Windsor
You'll get a great meal and in a warm comfortable atmosphere in this restored train station location. The food is excellent and you'll love the live music playing in the background.
10. Sneakers Bistro - 28 Main Street, Winoosk
They had us at the Benedict Trio, but everything is wonderful at the beloved Sneakers Bistro. Simply put - delicious food, amazing drinks, and awesome service. The perfect place for brunch and people/dog-watching on weekends, too.
11. Top of The Hill Grill - 632 Putney Rd, Brattleboro
Whether you order take out or enjoy your meal on the wonderful outdoor patio with a great river view, you'll love the Top of the Hill Grill. Hearty portions, reasonably priced and oh-so-delicious!
