The Most Famous Highway In America Has A Truly Terrifying History

Main Street America, Will Rogers Highway, Mother Road, Route 66 – these are all names for one of the most iconic highways in the country. The route was established in 1926 as one of America’s originals and at the time ran from Chicago, IL to Santa Monica, CA. The road has born witness to many significant cultural events, including western migration during the Dust Bowl of the 1930s.

Since then, the road has undergone several renovations, repairs, and even replacements. What remains today is portions of the original route, now referred to as Historic Route 66.
